From a router perspective, what matters are interface. It doesn't change the router behavior if an interface is physical or virtual. You can have either two cables between the router and the switch, each one in its own VLAN, or a single cable configured as a trunk that carry both VLAN. Both scenario will works, but they are not strictly equivalent.

go to VLAN > 802.1Q > Advanced > VLAN Configuration; enter 42 at VLAN ID field and click Add; enter 44 at VLAN ID field and click Add; Configure port 6 as a trunk port. IMPORTANT: changing port 6 to trunk port will temporarily disable the sub-network VLAN 40. Port 6 was originally setup as VLAN 40 for use of an access point to connect all May 04, 2019 · Many modern routers support VLAN functionality in some form or another. Home routers might not support VLAN or only support it in a limited capacity. Custom firmware like DD-WRT does support it more thoroughly. Speaking of custom, you don’t need an off-the-shelf router to work with your virtual LANs. port8 connecting to router's DMZ port, add port8 as a member of VLAN 3 and untagging. Enable DHCP server on your DMZ. port5 connecting to an internal network, have port5 untagged. This article will demonstrate how to configure VLANs using an LRT2x4 router. In the network topology below, the company has four (4) departments: HR, Sales, R&D, and Advertising. The following configuration would only allow Sales (VLAN 2) and Advertising (VLAN 4) departments to communicate with each other but not with other departments. My Ubiquiti USG supports VLANs, and when paired with a UAP-AC-Lite / Pro, you'd have great wireless and VLAN support. You'd need to add some sort of managed switch to have more than one LAN port available, though (the USG only has three ports -- WAN, LAN, and a port that is labeled for VoIP, but can be turned into another LAN port) Port-based VLAN's means that you can reconfigure ports to be in different VLAN's. Port-based VLAN's do not confirm 802.1q VLAN support. 802.1q VLAN's means that you can tag VLAN's with 802.1q headers to create a trunk between two devices that carries frames for multiple VLAN's. 802.1q VLAN's confirm that there is also Port-based VLAN support.

Ended up getting a replacement router and found the details of configuring the new router to tag the Internet port with VLAN 201 along with IGMP snooping and some other options to make sure our Prism TV service would keep working. Since eero does not support these options, it has to remain in bridged mode and remain behind our primary router.

May 01, 2018 · Hi, I need to choose a wireless router that will provide me with reliable VLAN configuration. Basically, one of the ethernet ports needs to provide Internet-only access to a B&B while the wifi and other ethernet ports service the main home. I just want to reasonably block snooping or malware spreading between the two networks. The simpler and more reliable this will be to set up, the better Hi All, I have 5 wireless devices need to connect to the router, I wish to separate them into 2 groups, ie, group 1, Device A,B,C, group 2, Device D,E. Sep 19, 2017 · A virtual LAN (VLAN) is a local area network that maps devices on a basis other than geographic location, for example, by department, type of user, or primary application. Traffic that flows between different VLANs must go through a router, just as if the VLANs are on two separate LANs.
